The name means "Lizard from the Meuse" and was a carnivore from the Upper Cretaceous period.
Mosasaurus was a ferocious sea reptile of enormous size , It was about 15 metres long and around 13.5 tonnes. Modern research has determined that it had a fluked tail.
The roof of the upper jaw contained ptergoid teeth, closely related to the British Polacanthus, for holding its prey.
